A Helicopter Proposal with a Family Surprise on the Kanderfirn Glacier

A collaboration post with The Perfect Yes.

Two helicopters, one glacier, and a woman who had no idea her whole family was on the way.

On 7 May 2026, on a private glacier in the Swiss Alps reachable only by helicopter, our proposal partner The Perfect Yes facilitated every detail of this day, and I was on the glacier to capture it.

The first helicopter landed ahead of the couple with the preparation team: the florist, the violinist, the videographer and me. Together we watched the Kanderfirn Glacier at 2,400 metres transform. Fresh florals on columns rising from the ice, fabric moving in the alpine wind, a stage set against one of the most breathtaking backdrops in Switzerland.

Then, in a single choreographed moment, two helicopters touched down at the same time. A Bell 429 had left Zurich in complete secrecy, carrying her entire family. A brand new Airbus H145 D3 had flown in from Interlaken with the couple. She had absolutely no idea what was coming, or that her family was coming too.

She stepped onto the snow. Her family was standing on the glacier. The violinist began to play. The reunion came first: shock giving way to joy, tears in the snow, embraces at altitude. Then he took her hand, and the music carried them toward the moment itself.

He asked her father for her hand. He went down on one knee. And as he did, the violinist moved into the song she had composed for him for Valentine’s Day, played live, at altitude, completely unexpected. Overwhelmed with emotion, she joined him on her knees, saying yes.

A star-shaped ring set with diamonds. Champagne poured on the glacier. Then the whole party flew together to Interlaken to celebrate.

Moments like this happen once. Documenting them is a responsibility I take seriously.
