Wedding near Lucerne
When you arrive in Switzerland by Airplane, you will probably arrive in Zurich. From there, take the train to Lucerne and you will end in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It’s small, nice and somehow affordable (compared to bigger cities such as Zurich or Geneva).
From there, its just a stone’s throw to go to the canton of Obwalden, a really small and quiet place in the exact middle of Switzerland. Like all the villages in Obwalden, Alpnach is also surrounded by the beautiful alps, forests and lakes.
Alpnach especially is just right beneath the mighty mount pilatus. Well actually, it’s Alpnachstad which is below Pilatus, Alpnach is the main city just next to it.
In Alpnach there’s a small sub-town called Schoried, where Alexandra & Matthias decided to get married in a small and nice church.
They chose to have me as their Swiss Wedding Photographer because I grew up in that area and know a lot of locations and guests that attended the Wedding.
Swiss Wedding Photographer
So how does the usual wedding day look like for a Swiss Wedding Photographer? I’ll tell you how:
Depending on the wedding ceremony and preparations, we might start with the getting ready at the hotel or at the home of the couple. Usually, the Groom doesn’t see his bride before the wedding.
After that, the wedding ceremony takes place, sometimes it’s a church wedding and sometimes not. The ceremony usually takes about one hour time. During the ceremony, there’s sometimes music and blessings from the priests. At church weddings, the guests are also asked to send their wishes to god for the couple.
When the ceremony is over, everybody goes to church and we have something that we call “Apero”, which is basically a rich cocktail party with drinks and fingerfood. The apero can contain up to several hundred guests, since the invited people are usually the ones from the different clubs, where the couples are members of, or for example the working colleagues etc..
This usually takes about 2-4 Hours, at the end of the Apero, we usually make group pictures. When the last group picture is done, I move with the wedding couple to a nice location for a photoshoot. Meanwhile the so called ‘invited’ guests (Family and the closest friends) move to the evening location.
The evening program starts with the first course. The most weddings have 3-5 courses, including the wedding cake. In between the courses, there are usually games, slideshows and similar things. But this isn’t organized by the wedding couple anymore 🙂
So this is basically just a quick overview how the usual wedding looks like in Switzerland. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me 🙂
