April at the Bürgenstock Resort is something special. The gardens are alive with colour, the birch trees are full, the air is warm and still, and Lake Lucerne shimmers far below in the spring light. It’s one of those settings that makes everything look like it was made for this exact kind of moment.
He had chosen a spot in the garden beneath a beautiful birch tree, with the lake as a backdrop and red roses already waiting. When she turned the corner and saw him standing there, she had no idea what was about to happen. He got down on one knee, and everything else fell away.
What followed was one of those sessions that feels completely effortless — the kind where nobody has to try. They were laughing almost immediately, leaning into each other, wandering the gardens as the afternoon turned golden. The spring light at the Bürgenstock in late April is extraordinary: long, warm, and soft, filtering through the trees and catching the lake in just the right way.
As the sun dropped lower the light only got better — backlit portraits by the birch tree, close-ups full of warmth and happiness, and eventually portraits against the hotel building itself as the sky turned pale gold. These are the photographs that will mean something for the rest of their lives.
The Bürgenstock Resort is one of my favourite locations for proposals in Switzerland. The elevated position above Lake Lucerne, the beautifully kept grounds, and the sheer variety of backdrops — garden, terrace, trees, hotel facade, lake panorama — make it almost impossible to take a bad photograph here. If you’re planning something similar, I’d love to hear from you.
